(In A Sermon Outline "with bible verses")
Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
INTRODUCTION: Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Gal.5:23
What does "Fruit of the Spirit mean?" Do you ever wonder about the "Fruits of the Spirit" and their meaning? There is a lot of wonderful teachings in these various blessings of the Spirit. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, the "Holy Spirit" begins the work of changing our sin led lives into "God led" lives. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds. Salvation is for anyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord Jesus (John 3:16).
Jesus said to Nicodemus, "Be born again!" It doesn't matter what special church you go to or what rituals you perform, Jesus said this and it is from the Holy Bible. If you are born again, you will see Heaven because you believe. The Holy Spirit comes to you and starts leading you down the path of righteousness. The Holy Spirit brings about a change in people with their Ambitions, Attitudes, Actions, Affections and Emotions. Every area of our lives begin to change when we "sincerely" follow the Lord.
Let's Pray Considering one of the Fruits of the Spirit, "Temperance:" as we pray for Godly wisdom and knowledge. Richly leading of our lives into a deeper spiritual growth.
"GALATIONS 5:22 BUT THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS..."Temperance"
I. SELF CONTROL OR
TEMPERANCE, IN OUR TALENTS AND GIFTINGS.
A. Talents were given according to the ability of the person.
1. Five talents were doubled to ten talents.
B. We are given our Talents from the Lord for a reason:
1. We have to "use" them for the glory
C. We will be rewarded in Heaven for using the giftings and talents with Temperance, Self Control. (In other words, we have to work at using them!)
II. SELF CONTROL OR TEMPERANCE,
HAVING CONTROL OVER OUR TEMPERS AND EMOTIONS.
B. God will judge your anger against you. Matthew 5:22-24 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hellfire. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
C. We must use Self Control in everyday practice controlling "Emotions."
1. Controlling our emotions, by remembering that the bible says we "can't trust our emotions." (Satan uses our emotions to get our focus off of God!)
2. Controlling our emotions so that anger doesn't get out of control. (God is our examples: Joel 2:13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
3. Controlling our emotions, so that we are slow to anger, slow to speak, and slow to react in a negative unchristian way. James 1:19-20 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
III. SELF CONTROL OR TEMPERANCE, IN OUR TIME AND OUR PATIENCE
A. Self Control over your time. Ephesians 5:15-19 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
1. We have a short life and we need to
take control of it for the Lord.
B. Self Control over your Patience. (In other words asking the Good Lord to help you control your heart, mind, will, emotions and...... tongue.)
1. We can control our tongue, but it
takes practice. What you think, you will speak! (It is that
CONCLUSION: "GALATIONS 5:22 BUT THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS......."TEMPERANCE!" (SELF CONTROL)
We believers will be known by our fruit. When a Christian demonstrates a humble attitude of peaceful self control, they are demonstrating their "fruit of the Spirit." It is not easy to let go and let God, but it does get easier as time goes on. Remember this, "The more you use this gifting "temperance," the more you will have of this gifting. It does get easier and easier the more one surrenders over their life to the Lord. The key word here is "Surrender."
LET'S PRAY THANKING THE LORD FOR WHAT HE HAS
TAUGHT US THIS DAY ABOUT ONE OF THE "FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT,....."Temperance:."
Create in me a clean heart, O
IN JESUS' WONDERFUL NAME I PRAY, LORD HELP ME TO HEAR THY "JOY AND GLADNESS" IN MY HEART!
ILLUSTRATION: THE TALENTS
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strowed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strowed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats.
